Administrative Residency Program

As an essential part of the Health Services Administration Master’s Program, students must satisfactorily complete a practical experience that allows the application of their theoretical knowledge to a practical professional experience in health services administration. This experience is the main requirement of the course ADSS 6597: Administrative Residency. The primary objective of the residency is to provide students with an integrated experience in applying concepts and theoretical principles to real-life situations. This experience consists of 800 hours experience in a healthcare facility where the student is exposed to at a minimum of two setting. In Part 1, the ambulatory setting during the summer is offered upon completion of all courses of the first year. This experience consists of 240 hours. Part 2 consists of the hospital experience.

Students are exposed to concepts, theories, methods, and principles related to administration in the health field. The coursework enables them to develop a theoretical framework that will be useful in facing the realities of the healthcare industry during the residency period. The administrative residency is a logical and planned extension of the academic year where an integrated experience is provided to develop the administrative skills of the students to their maximum potential.

The Program Director and Residency Coordinator perform as advisors to the students in programming the residency and will give their final approval. Residencies are directly supervised by the Residency Coordinator with the assistance of the Field Preceptor.
